Mathematics Department

All teachers who are passionate about their subjects will make the case for the unique importance of their discipline. In the Mathematics Department, we may be on stronger ground when we make the case for the fundamental importance of mathematics in the intellectual development and future success of our students at SISU Bilingual School.

While mathematics is, of course, essential to so many professional fields, the Math Department at SISU Bilingual School is aware that the study of math is also a wonderful opportunity to present students with an experience of rigorous intellectual training, the benefits of which students bring into all their other subjects. From the Ancient Greeks and Babylonians with the development of arithmetic and theorems, through the Golden Age of Islam and the development of algebra, into the early modern period and the development of calculus, and right up to the present where the intersection of mathematics and science lies at the very heart of our world’s technological developments, a student of mathematics is a student of mankind’s very own intellectual development.

Informed by a modern pedagogy of student-centered learning and guided discovery, the mathematics program at SISU Bilingual School scaffolds and supports students’ ever-deepening engagement with the subject, facilitating our students in studying and taking exams across a wide range of curricula: AS, A-level, AP and SAT (for the core exam and the subject tests).

Our basic curriculum map looks like this:

Grade 10 Precalculus (Honor & Regular) A – LEVEL (AS)
Grade 11 AP Calculus & Precalculus A – LEVEL (A2)
Grade 12 Applied Math Further Math
