G10 English
“The limits of my language are the limits of my mind. All I know is what I have words for.”
The acquisition of a wide and sophisticated vocabulary is the greatest challenge that the second language learner faces: it is the ‘Everest’ of second-language acquisition.
At SISU Bilingual School, we make a focus on vocabulary acquisition the core element of the G10 English program. Using the best, most up-to-date resources, we support and guide our students through the process of acquiring a high-level vocabulary.
G11 English
“G11 English is challenging but exciting. Students continue to support their learning of English through the Pathways series, but now turn to the detailed study of a fascinating set of canonical literary texts.”
At SISU Bilingual School, our G11 students deepen their engagement with the study of English. The sophistication of the G11 texts increases, and students must complete tasks that are more linguistically and intellectually challenging. Our students continue to use the Pathways series.
G12 English
“In my English class at SISU Bilingual school, I was always encouraged and given the opportunity to share and develop my thoughts and comments in seminars and structured discussions—this has helped me a lot in the first year of my university course.”
Grade 12 is a busy year for High School students: completing the requirements of their college applications; personal statements; choosing early decision or early action. Along with all of that, they must keep up with the academic demands of their high school courses.
For Prospective Students
If you are thinking of coming to SISU Bilingual School, or if you have been offered a place to join G10 in the coming academic year, the following sections will help you prepare to make a successful start to your time with us.
Meet Our English Teachers
Raymond Li
A graduate from Beijing Foreign Studies University and University College London, Raymond Li is a bridge between Chinese and English for our students. In his classes, he brings students through selections of English texts and stimulates students’ interest in a variety of topics. His classes facilitate our students in building their bilingual abilities by teaching and demonstrating the fluid movement between English and Chinese.
“I particularly enjoy when students take their own initiative and display enough confidence to offer their own interpretations of and insights into the texts that we are working through.”
Gardenia Ye
Gardenia Ye holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from Fudan University, and a Master of Education in Language and Literacy from Harvard Graduate School of Education. She has been working as an English teacher since graduation and has worked with students aged 12-18. As an educator, she advocates learning by reading, using English as a foreign language to facilitate learning in all content areas from a wider scope.
“In my class, I enjoy initiating student-centered discussions and activities, where students become the owner and leader of their learning.”
Selina Feng
Selina Feng holds a bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature from Nanjing Normal University. Writing detective stories since 10 years old, she published her very first anthology during her sophomore year. Then she pursued her graduate degree in psychology at Columbia University. After years of teaching experiences with multiple international curricula and students of various ages, she keeps on exploring new teaching techniques to better inspire students in their pursuit of knowledge. A good educator, she believes, can not only actively engage students in classroom activities, but also positively stimulate them to develop better personality traits, which plays an essential part in their future lives.
“I’ve always believed that the desperate situation will teach us the most.”
Tom Chapman
A native of the United Kingdom, Tom Chapman attained a BA from the University of Essex before going on to complete an MA at the University of York, majoring in history. He has been in China for over four years and has taught English to students at every level from kindergarten to MBA. With plenty of experience with teenagers and a particular fondness for literature, Tom is currently working with our high school students for a better understanding of and a deeper insight into English literary works.
“As an educator, my purpose is to help the students develop into conscientious young people who have the skills needed to understand and interact with the world.”

For over eight years, Dimi Petkov have worked in various educational roles including teaching, management, and project managers. As a history and literature teacher, he emphasizes the skills that come with the subject and would be most beneficial to the overall education of students now and in the near future.
